Originally designed by Frank Pennink and opened in 1969, the Old Course at Vilamoura is one of the oldest courses in Portugal and is sometimes referred to as the 'Grande Dame' of the Algarve. Remodelled by Martin Hawtree and reopened in 1997, the layout features mature umbrella pines framing strategic par-4s with small greens and a course rating of 73.1 (slope 136). The course hosted the Portuguese Open in 1976 and has hosted the Dom Pedro Championship (Challenge Tour) in more recent years. Hole 8 — the stroke index 1 hole — is a par-4 of over 400 metres and is considered the pick of the front nine.

How to get there
Faro Airport is around 25 minutes from Vilamoura. Car hire is the most flexible option; taxis and private transfers are also readily available. Vilamoura is well signposted from the A22 motorway.
