From Delhi to Dubai: Eugenio Chacarra Takes the Race to Dubai Lead

A demanding Sunday in Delhi brought Eugenio Chacarra his third victory of 2026 and a new position at the top of the Race to Dubai.

For much of Sunday at Delhi Golf Club, Eugenio Chacarra appeared to be in control. By the time he reached the closing holes, control was something he had to earn all over again.

The Spaniard won the DP World India Championship at 21 under par, two strokes ahead of New Zealand's Daniel Hillier. It was Chacarra's third DP World Tour victory of 2026, following wins at the KLM Open and the Italian Open in June. It also took him past Patrick Reed to the top of the Race to Dubai standings, with Rory McIlroy in third.

A long day, then a tight finish

Weather delays had left Chacarra with 25 holes to play on Sunday. He completed his third round with a 63 and began the final round five shots ahead. An early birdie helped stretch the advantage further, but the margin was less comfortable by the back nine.

Hillier's late charge brought him to 19 under. When he birdied the 18th, Chacarra's lead was down to two. Chacarra had found trouble from the tee at the 16th, but recovered to save par, then made two more pars to finish the job. His closing 70 was enough.

That sequence tells the story better than the size of his earlier lead. Delhi asked Chacarra to manage a disrupted schedule, a tiring final day and a chasing player who refused to disappear. He left with the trophy and the lead in the season-long race.

Why the standings matter now

The Race to Dubai remains open. Reed and McIlroy are still within the season-ending contest, and the DP World Tour has more golf to play before its champion is crowned. Chacarra has moved into the strongest position, but Sunday's win did not settle the title.

The tour's next stop is the Genesis Championship in South Korea, followed by its November Play-Offs: the Abu Dhabi Championship and the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Those final events will determine whether Chacarra's remarkable summer and autumn become a championship season.

For a Spanish golfer following a lineage that includes Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm, the prospect carries obvious weight. For everyone watching the tour, it gives the final weeks a clear question: can Chacarra hold the lead he worked so hard to take in Delhi?
