Course overview

The Valley Links is Royal Portrush Golf Club's second 18-hole course, designed by Harry Colt and opened in 1929 alongside the championship Dunluce Links. Set in the sheltered landscape of the War Hollow — believed to have been the site of a battle between Irish chieftains and Magnus Barefoot, King of Norway, in 1102 — the Valley winds through natural seaside turf on a full-length championship layout. The course consistently ranks among Ireland's top 40, and it is where Graeme McDowell, U.S. Open Champion 2010, honed the skills that took him to the world stage. Visitors are welcome on most days, with tee times published on the club website.

Character & atmosphere

A sheltered links that contrasts the exposed Dunluce — lower-lying fairways in the War Hollow still demand accuracy and links-savvy play, while the natural turf and firm conditions reward a ground-game approach.
